This bike was built in the late 70's by Brian Brownrigg for Chris Hawkes. Brian a talented engineer and racer who converted the Honda frame from to monoshock using s de carbon damper unit, he also tuned the engine.
Chris Hawkes had success at Aintree winning the 500cc four stroke Ace of Aintree Championship, he also raced at Cadwell Park. The bike was re homed in 1982 and raced that season with some success. in that 1982 season the cylinder head was ported by Dixon Racing (Yoshimura). The journals were not the best so it went to Joy Engineering to be converted to white metal shell bearings, the crank was stripped to have the conrods polished and balanced. In the following years it won 3 championships at Three Sisters race track and led the Ace of Aintree Championship for a short time and finished 3rd overall that year.
In 1985 the bike was sold to John Judge who also had good results on it, John later died at the Manx Grand Prix in 1991. In 1997 the bike was registered on a Q plate for the road where the frame was altered to take twin Maxton rear shocks, this was done by Ben Hardman of Raysons. The monoshock lug is still in place and could easily be reinstated, at this time the head and barrels were stripped and found the cam journals to be perfect as was the cylinder bores, the bores were honed and new piston and rings were fitted. Also at that time the Cam Chain and new Kibble white valve springs with titanium collars were fitted.
